DJI Dock 4 Enables Near-Continuous Drone Flights With 25-Second Battery Swaps

Post by

DJI has introduced a new automated drone docking system designed to keep enterprise aerial operations running with minimal interruption. The DJI Dock 4 can replace a compatible drone’s battery in around 25 seconds, allowing the aircraft to return to the air quickly instead of waiting for a conventional charging cycle.

Battery swaps in about 25 seconds

The system is designed to work with DJI’s Matrice 5TD enterprise drone. According to DJI, the aircraft remains powered during the automated battery exchange, helping reduce downtime between missions. The Matrice 5TD is rated for up to 59 minutes of flight on a battery, while the docking station enables near-continuous operation through repeated swaps.

Built for monitoring and emergency response

The Matrice 5TD includes sensors for day and night operations, a laser rangefinder with a stated range of up to 3 kilometres, and real-time recognition for 17 types of objects. These capabilities are intended for professional applications such as emergency response, infrastructure inspection and wide-area monitoring.

Although the system is described as offering virtually endless flight time, the drone itself still has a finite flight time per battery. The advantage is that automated battery replacement can keep missions going with very little downtime; it does not mean the aircraft literally flies forever or without operational limits.

Enterprise-focused technology

DJI has positioned the Dock 4 and Matrice 5TD for business and public-safety users. Pricing has not been publicly disclosed in the source report, and availability may vary by market.
